Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings wrapped up their weekend on Sunday with a 5-1 loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors at Rogers Place.
In the first period, the Warriors came out with plenty of jump and were able to take a 1-0 lead just 5:14 in after Martin Rysavy capitalized on a centering feed from Atley Calvert.
The Warriors ended up outshooting the Oil Kings 11-6 in the first period but only had the 1-0 lead to show for it at the first intermission as Hudson Perry, making his first career WHL start, came up with a number of timely saves in the period.
In the second period, the Warriors were able to extend to a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Ethan Hughes and Pavel McKenzie.
In the second half of the middle stanza the Oil Kings started to find their legs and at the 11:49 mark Roan Woodward got Edmonton on the board after blocking a shot in his defensive zone, he raced the length the ice on a breakaway and snapped a shot past the blocker of Moose Jaw goaltender Dimitri Fortin for his fifth goal of the season.
The Oil Kings would generate a handful of chances after the Woodward goal but couldn't solve Fortin for a second time.
In the third period, the Warriors tacked on power play goals from Atley Calvert and Brayden Yager to pull away with the 5-1 win.
Perry finished the night making 37 saves for the Oil Kings, while Fortin turned in 25 for the Warriors. Edmonton went 0-for-3 on the power play, Moose Jaw was 2-for-4.
