The Story:
Nick Avakyan made 25 saves in a strong Winterhawks debut, but the Prince George Cougars proved too strong as they took a 4-0 win on Sunday.
Zac Funk potted a hat-trick in the game, scoring once in the first period and twice in the second. Ondrej Becher nabbed the other late in the first, while Riley Heidt and Terik Parascak each recorded three assists. Joshua Ravensbergen posted his 5th shutout of the year with 33 saves on 33 shots.
A strong third period gave Portland hope as the Hawks outshot Prince George 17-8, but Ravensbergen held strong for the Cougars.
The Winterhawks return to action on home ice next Friday against the Spokane Chiefs before taking on the Seattle Thunderbirds for their annual Teddy Bear Toss game on Saturday.
