Ogle Orchestrates 'Topes' 4-3 Win
September 3, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Tyler Ogle went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI in his Triple-A debut, boosting the Albuquerque Isotopes (80-64) to a 4-3 series-clinching win over the Omaha Storm Chasers (83-61) Monday afternoon at Isotopes Park. The victory gives the 'Topes 80 wins on the season, tying the 2009 club for the most victories in a single season in franchise history.
Omaha snagged a quick 1-0 lead in the first when Jason Bourgeois drew a leadoff walk, swiped second and scored on a dropped popout to Dee Gordon. The early run marked just the first time in the four-game set that the visitors found the scoreboard first.
The 'Topes then quickly erased the one-run deficit in the second as Elian Herrera and Tony Gwynn Jr. slapped back-to-back singles in front of a walk to Ozzie Martinez that loaded the bases. Ogle then wasted little time collecting his first Triple-A hit, promptly plating two runs with a base knock to right that gave Albuquerque a 2-1 edge.
'Topes hurler Lorenzo Barcelo made his Albuquerque debut as well, allowing a pair of runs on six hits through 3.0 innings in which he surrendered no free passes and struck out one.
The Storm Chasers resumed the see-saw battle in the third, retaking the lead beginning with a one-out double from Derrick Robinson, who scored two batters later on a single courtesy of Mitch Maier, knotting the contest 2-2. Wil Myers and Clint Robinson then collected consecutive hits, the latter of which plated Maier to put Omaha up 3-2.
Albuquerque responded in the fourth, tying the score 3-3 when Herrera coaxed a walk, advanced to second on a groundout from Gwynn and came to rest at third on a single from Martinez. Ogle continued his heroics, poking another RBI single to right that brought Herrera in from third.
The catcher wasn't finished quite yet though, and after Gwynn led off the sixth with a double, Ogle knocked his third hit of the afternoon, this time a single up the middle that scored the runner from second and gave the home team a 4-3 advantage.
Isotopes reliever Francisco Felix (1-1) took over from there, authoring 3.2 scoreless frames in which he walked two and fanned one. Following Felix's departure, reliever Scott Rice (9) struck out Maier for the final out of the game, preserving a 4-3 Albuquerque win.
The Isotopes and Storm Chasers will each enjoy a day off before beginning their playoff series on Wednesday night at 6:05 PM MT. Albuquerque right-hander Fernando Nieve (7-9, 5.96) will get the ball against Omaha righty Jake Odorizzi (11-3, 2.93) in game one of the opening round of the PCL Playoffs.
The 'Topes begin the PCL playoffs with a two-game set in Omaha on Wednesday before returning home Friday, September 7 for game three of the series with first pitch slated for 7:05 PM! Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or online at www.abqisotopes.com or www.ticketmaster.com .
