Cats Fall in Regular Season Finale, 16-9

SALT LAKE CITY - The Sacramento River Cats pounded out 12 hits and plated nine runs in the regular season finale, but fell to the Salt Lake Bees, 16-9, Monday afternoon at Spring Mobile Ballpark.

Despite the loss, the River Cats (86-58) finished the 2012 campaign with the best record in the Pacific Coast League and their sixth-straight Pacific South Division championship. The Cats open the playoffs at home Wednesday against the Reno Aces, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. PT.

In Monday's defeat, Sonny Gray (0-1) suffered the loss in his Triple-A debut, just 15 months removed from being drafted in the first round out of Vanderbilt. Gray went four innings, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits.

Matt Shoemaker (11-10) earned the win for the Bees, despite surrendering six earned runs on 11 hits in five innings.

Daric Barton, Grant Green and Kila Ka'aihue all had two hits in the game, and Stephen Parker tripled and drove in two.

The River Cats open the 2012 playoff season on Sept. 5-6 at Raley Field against the Reno Aces, with both games set for 7:05 p.m. Games three, four and five will be played at Aces Ballpark in Reno, Nev. on Sept. 7-9.
