Tacoma Rainiers News Release
FRESNO, Calif. -- Guillermo Quiroz drove in four runs and Carlos Triunfel recorded four hits and as the Tacoma Rainiers rolled to a 10-2 win over the Fresno Grizzlies at Chukchansi Park on Sunday night.
Quiroz provided the Rainiers an early 3-0 lead through the game's first four innings. The catcher hit a single to center field that plated Triunfel and outfielder Casper Wells with two outs in the second. He added another run with a sacrifice fly that again plated Wells in the top of the fourth.
Tacoma held a 5-2 lead over the Grizzlies before exploding for five runs in the top of the ninth. Alex Liddi tallied an RBI-single and Vinnie Catricala chipped in a three-run triple before Quiroz rounded out the frame with a run-scoring single to left field with two outs in the inning.
As a team, the Tacoma lineup combined to collect 13 hits on Sunday. Quiroz, Mike Carp and outfielder Darren Ford each collected two hits, joining Triunfel as the only Rainiers players to turn in multi-hit efforts in the contest.
The designated hitter Carp went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI in the sixth game of his Major League rehab assignment with Tacoma.
Starter Hector Noesi (2-6) picked up the win in his 11th start with the Rainiers this season after holding the Grizzlies to two runs on nine hits over seven innings. The right-hander struck out four batters and issued one walk.
Left-handed reliever Brian Moran struck out two batters over two perfect innings of action out of the bullpen over the eighth and ninth on the way to collecting his second save with Tacoma this season.
The Rainiers (63-80) look to pick up a series win in the club's season finale at Fresno (73-70) tomorrow, September 3. Left-handed pitching prospect Danny Hultzen (1-4, 6.09) is slated to get the start for Tacoma against Grizzlies left-hander Brian Burres (4-6, 4.34). First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
