Offensive Explosion Leads to Bombers 21-7 Rout

BATTLE CREEK, MI - The Battle Creek Bombers put on an offensive clinic against the Wisconsin Woodchucks Tuesday in their 21-7 victory.

Battle Creek rattled off 21 runs on 18 hits, both season-highs. The big innings for the Bombers came in the fifth and the eighth.

The Bombers trailed 4-2 going in to the bottom of the fifth and by time the inning concluded the entire complexion of the game changed. The Bombers scored seven runs on seven hits including four straight RBI singles. Mason Sykes had two hits in the inning. His two-run single in his second at-bat of the frame made it 9-4.

The Woodchucks were in control of the game going into that inning as they scored four runs of their own in the fifth off Bombers reliever Nolan Lamere on three hits.

Battle Creek resumed their rout in the eighth scoring eight runs on five hits. And Sykes was at it again with two singles in the inning, each scoring one run. Sykes lead the Bombers going 5-7, the most hits by a Bomber in a single game this season. Heath Hood and Stephen Krause chipped in as both players had three hit nights.

Zach Williams started for the Bombers working swiftly in four innings of work. The righty allowed just one hit and struck out three. He was opposed by Ozvaldo Valdez who lasted just 3.2 innings giving up just two runs.

Wisconsin used five different relievers. Geo Camfield gave up a game high six runs recording just one out in the fifth inning. Adam Muirhead recorded just one out in the eighth as he gave up five runs on four walks and one hit before his night was done.

Lamere got the win for the Bombers in relief going 3.1 innings giving up seven runs on six hits with one strikeout.

The Woodchucks scored three runs in the eighth off the righty which included a home run from pinch hitter Stephen Reid who made his season debut in big fashion.

Along with the big fifth and eighth innings the Bombers scored a run in the first on an error and one in the fourth when Beau Kirsch drove home Hood on a sacrifice fly.

The Bombers have now scored 33 runs in their last two games, the most over any two-game stretch this season. The Woodchucks have now dropped five of their last six and the Bombers improve to 14-21 and start the second half 1-0.

These two teams will close out thee two-game series at C.O. Brown Stadium tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
