Harrisburg Senators News Release
Harrisburg, PA - RHP Bobby Brownlie gave the Harrisburg Senators a tremendous start, going eight innings in a 9-3 win over the Reading Phillies, Monday in Reading.
Brownlie went eight innings, the longest start for any Senators pitcher this year, to stay perfect at 6-0. He allowed two runs on six hits and struck out three without walking a batter. Brownlie didn't allow a run after the 1st inning.
William Bergolla put the Senators on the board in the top of the 1st inning. Bergolla hit a towering drive over the left-field wall to give Harrisburg a 1-0 lead.
The Phillies came right back and appeared to have Brownlie's number in the bottom of the 1st. Michael Spidale doubled and after a strikeout, Brad Harman drilled a two-run homer to center to give the R-Phils a 2-1 advantage. Lou Marson followed with a double, but Brownlie settled down and ended the inning.
Harrisburg took the lead back in the top of the 3rd. Mike Daniel and Bergolla drew back-to-back one-out walks and Roger Bernadina followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2. Two batters later, Luis Jimenez hammered a single up the middle to plate Bergolla and give Harrisburg a 3-2 edge.
In the top of the 5th, Luke Montz drilled a two-out RBI double to make it a 4-2 lead.
The Senators plated four runs in the top of the 6th. An infield single by Garrett Guzman and back-to-back walks loaded the bases with nobody out. Mike Daniel pounded a two-run single to right to make it 6-2 Harrisburg. Later in the inning, Montz drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 7-2. An RBI groundout by Jimenez ballooned the margin to 8-2.
Montz put the exclamation point on the offensive onslaught with a solo home run to right-center to make it 9-2.
Meanwhile, Brownlie locked in, at one point retiring 12 Phillies in a row. He allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the 8th when an infield pop-up was dropped and the runner went all the way to second base. Three batters later, Harman lifted a sacrifice fly to center to cut it to 9-3.
The Phillies closed the scoring in the bottom of the 9th as Neil Sellers clubbed a two-out, two-run homer off RHP Josh Perrault to make it a 9-5 game.
Brownlie notched the win to move to 6-0 for the Senators and has received over eight runs per game in support. RHP J.D. Durbin took the loss to drop to 1-4.
The Senators upped their record to 42-32. Reading dropped to 29-45.
The series rolls on Tuesday in Reading. RHP Jordan Zimmermann (2-1, 3.24 ERA) takes the ball against Phillies RHP Tyson Brummert (1-0, 3.12 ERA) in a 7:05 PM start.
