
Eastern League Announces Bank Of America Weekly Award Winners

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the Major League Baseball Advanced Media selections for the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher and Player of the Week Awards for the week ending June 22nd:
Akron Aeros outfielder Trevor Crowe has been named the Bank of America Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending June 22nd. The 24-year old had an outstanding week for the Aeros, hitting .464 (13-for-28) with four doubles, two home runs, nine runs scored, eight RBI, two walks, two stolen bases and a .821 slugging percentage in six games. Crowe, who is a native of Portland, Oregon, had at least one hit in each of the games he played in during the week and collected 11 hits in his final 18 at bats of the week to raise his batting average 50 points. The 6'0", 190 lb. switch hitter has reached base in 20 straight games for the Aeros and is hitting .377 with 21 runs scored and 14 RBI in 18 games during the month of June. Trevor, who hit .259 in 133 games with Akron last season, was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the first round of the 2005 draft as the 14th overall pick after hitting .403 with 83 runs scored and 54 RBI in 60 games and being named Pacific-10 Co-Player of the Year as a junior at the University of Arizona.

Joseph Martinez, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Connecticut Defenders, is the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 22nd. Martinez, who is a native of South Orange, New Jersey, made one start for the Defenders last week and had a 0.00 ERA. In his lone appearance of the week the 25-year old faced the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Wednesday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium and pitched seven shutout innings and struck out four batters while surrendering only two hits and one walk to lead the Defenders to a 9-0 victory. With his performance the 6'3", 185 lb. hurler lowered his ERA to 1.73, which leads the league. Martinez is also ranked fourth in the league in WHIP (1.13) and is holding opposing batters to a .233 average in 78 innings of work this season. Joseph was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 12th round of the 2005 draft after posting a record of 9-3 with 99 strikeouts in 13 starts during his senior season at Boston College.
