Tacoma Rainiers News Release

West Sacramento, CA - The Tacoma Rainiers (63-55, 26-17) slipped to 2-2 on this road trip, with a 4-2 setback to the Sacramento River Cats (50-67, 16-27) on Friday night. The Rainiers are still 13-9 on the road in the second half, and have won five of their last seven away from home.

For a second straight night, the contest was scoreless into the fourth inning. But this time, it was the River Cats that drew first blood. Casey Schmitt tripled to left, and scored a batter later when David Villar singled to the same field. With two runners on later in the frame, Jakson Reetz homered (8) to center with two out, for a 4-0 Sacramento advantage. Schmitt had a game-high three hits.

The Rainiers began chipping away in the fifth, when Pedro Severino delivered an RBI single. In the sixth, Zach DeLoach doubled to left, and cruised home on a Taylor Trammell run-scoring knock. DeLoach leads the club with 22 doubles, but would unfortunately score the evening's final run.

Aside from the fourth inning, LHP Tommy Milone was largely un-blemished over 7.0 IP for Tacoma (94 pitches, 62 strikes). He scattered five hits and two walks, while striking out six (4 ER). Sacramento starter Kai-Wei Teng threw 81 pitches over 5.0 IP: 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 7 K. Friday snapped a nine-game Rainiers win streak in starts by Milone (13-4 when Milone pitches this season).

The penultimate game of this weeklong series will be on Saturday, a 6:37 PT first pitch at Sutter Health Park. Lefty Logan Allen is scheduled to start for Tacoma, against Sacramento right-hander Sean Hjelle.

Rainiers broadcaster Mike Curto will have full coverage on TacomaRainiers.com. All 2023 Rainiers games, home and away, can also be heard for free on the MiLB First Pitch app. HD video broadcasts of every home game can be viewed with a MiLB.TV subscription.
