South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/General Manager Jared Bednar announced today that forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien has been called up to the Iowa Chops of the American Hockey League. In a separate transaction, goaltender Bobby Goepfert has been called up to the Portland Pirates, also of the American Hockey League.
O'Brien, 26, is currently in his second season with the Stingrays after appearing in 70 games last year compiling 57 points (13g, 44a). This year, the Nicolet, PQ native has tallied nine goals and added 19 assists for 28 points in 34 games. Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-9, 180-pound forward spent four years at Sacred Heart University. This marks O'Brien's first call-up to the AHL this season.
Goepfert, 25, is in his first season with the Stingrays after playing his rookie year with the Augusta Lynx. The Kings Park, NY native has split this season between South Carolina and the Hershey Bears of the AHL. With the Stingrays, the net-minder is 7-2-4 with a 1.81 goals-against average and a .937 save percentage. He leads the league in shutouts and is second in both goals-against and save percentage. This marks Goepfert's third call-up to the AHL this season, first to Portland.
The Stingrays next home game is Thursday, Jan. 15th against the Florida Everblades at 7:05 p.m. It's Hospitality and College Night at the Rays game. Anyone with a valid pay stub from the golf, hotel, or food and beverage industry or a college ID can purchase $5 tickets at the box office.
**Please note that this game was originally scheduled for Friday, Jan. 16th. All tickets for Friday's game will be valid on Thursday.
Still available for purchase is the Stingrays Pick 6 Plan. Pick any six Stingrays games for the price of five. For more information, visit the Stingrays website at www.stingrayshockey.com.
