Salmon Kings' Gladue Named Performer Of The Month

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that defenseman Gary Gladue has been named the PaySourceUSA ECHL Plus Performer of the Month for December finishing with a plus-minus rating of +14.

The Salmon Kings won the three of the four monthly awards given out by the ECHL for the month of December. Todd Ford won the RBC Financial Group ECHL Saver of the Month; Wes Goldie took home the CCM TACKS ECHL Player of the Month and Gladue being named the PaySourceUSA ECHL Plus Performer of the Month. This was the first time for any of these individuals to be so honoured and the first time a Salmon King had ever been recognized for any of these awards.

Victoria also had the two runner-ups for the PaySourceUSA ECHL Plus Performer with Curtis Billsten and Tim Wedderburn each compiling a +11 rating for the month.

Gladue was even or better in 10 of 12 games in December and tied his career high of +4 against Phoenix on Dec. 12 when he also had season highs with two assists and two points. He is tied for sixth among league defensemen with a plus-minus rating of +13 and has 10 points (0g-10a) in 20 games.

The 24-year-old has played for the Salmon Kings the last two seasons and has 52 points (5g-47a) and 52 penalty minutes in 91 regular season games and one assist and two penalty minutes in eight Kelly Cup Playoff games.

The 6-1, 193lb Gladue played for Columbia as a rookie in 2005-06 and had 20 points (3g-17a) and 40 penalty minutes in 64 games and for Long Beach in 2006-07 when he had 19 points (2g-17a) and 36 penalty minutes in 69 games.

Gladue played five seasons in the Western Hockey League and had 111 points (24g-87a) in 307 regular season games and three assists in 13 playoff games with Prince George, Calgary and Spokane.

The Salmon Kings welcome the Pacific Division leading Ontario Reign to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre this weekend for a two-game set. The first game goes tonight and the second on Saturday evening. Both games start at 7:05 p.m.
