Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, NY- The last time the Elmira Jackals met up with the Johnstown Chiefs on home ice, the Jackals won 2-0. Tonight they brought the same pressure, the same intensity and the same amount of shots but unfortunately for the Jackals Ian Keserich brought a stack of bricks into First Arena turning aside all 37 Elmira shots helping Johnstown to a 3-0 win.
The first period opened with great tempo in a back and fourth contest. Both clubs played a physical game through the first 20 minutes. At the 8:37 mark Kaleb Betts fired a monster check on Ryan Del Monte, in return Mike Sgroi dropped the gloves challenging Betts. After the Betts tilt the arena stayed electrified with a Joe Grimaldi, Trevor Hendrix fight at the 19:34 mark.
The intensity continued into the second period. The Jackals led the shot category 23-7 after the middle frame but found themselves trailing 1-0 thanks to a short handed tally from Jarrett Konkle. Former Jackal Jon Landry was credited with the assist.
The third period would again feature great tempo and big hits. The Jackals pressured for 15 shots in the final frame but would be denied on every opportunity. Elmira tried everything including pulling David Shantz for an extra attacker. The Chiefs would capitalize on the empty net goal for a 2-0 lead, Sean Berkstresser's (5th) of the year. The Chiefs would put the icing on the cake for there fourth win of the season with Ryan Del Monte's (9th) goal of the year.
The Jackals fall to 16-15-1-3 while the Chiefs improve to 22-11-2-0.
