'O' Yeah Wiesblatt's GWG in Overtime Propels Tigers to Win Over Hurricanes

Lethbridge, AB - Oasiz Wiesblatt with 49.2 seconds left in overtime helped the Medicine Hat Tigers defeat the Lethbridge Hurricanes for the 4th time this season in a 3-2 triumph at a sold-out Enmax Centre Friday night.

The first period saw shots a plenty by the Tigers and Hurricanes, starting goaltender Ethan McCallum (Brandon, MB) was brilliant stopping all 16 Hurricane shots in the frame including a power play chance for Lethbridge. The Tigers would hit pay-dirt in the first as Bogdans Hodass (Jelgava, LAT) would end up in front of the Lethbridge net for his 7th of the season at 13:02 beating. Matt Paranych (Edmonton, AB) & Gavin McKenna (Whitehorse, YT) would draw assists for the only goal of the period and the Tigers leading 1-0 after 1.

Lethbridge wouldn't waste anytime into the middle stanza as Logan Wormald would cash in with his 19th of the season just 21 seconds into the period, tying the game at 1-1. The Tigers would then be able to answer right back at 6:42 as McKenna would pinball his 32nd of the season past Harrison Meneghin while the Lethbridge goaltender was handling the puck. Medicine Hat would fire 23 shots in the 2nd, a season high for the 2nd for the orange and black and would take a 2-1 lead to the 3rd period. Ethan McCallum would make make a brilliant stop on a 2 on 0 as Brayden Edwards would be robbed by the Brandon product to keep the Tigers up heading to the third.

Despite outshooting the Hurricanes 15-8 in the final 20 minutes, the Tigers couldn't solve Harrison Meneghin and with the extra attacker trailing by one. Lethbridge would tie the game with 2:01 left in regulation thanks to Brayden Edwards and his 31st of the season forcing overtime.

In the 3 on 3 overtime session the Tigers would fire four pucks and dictate most of the play in overtime but it wouldn't be till Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) would pick a Hurricane outlet pass off, break-in and beat Harrison Meneghin five-hole for the Tigers 37th win of the season, their 5th OT win on the campaign and the third OTW for Wiesblatt sealing the victory for the visitors.

With the win the Tigers move to 37-23-5-2 on the season and in their defeat, Lethbridge will finish 7th in the Eastern Conference and will face the Swift Current Broncos in round one of the WHL Playoffs.

The regular season wraps tomorrow between the Tigers and Hurricanes at Co-op Place for Fan Appreciation Night, as well the Tigers will hand out their team awards for the 2023-2024 season.
