Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - Francisco Perez combined with three relievers on a five-hit shutout and the Lake County Captains (2-3, 31-44) ended the Lansing Lugnuts' (4-1, 47-28) seven-game winning streak, 6-0, on Monday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
The Nuts had not lost since June 14th - when the Captains completed a three-game sweep in Eastlake, Ohio.
Norberto Obeso singled, doubled and drew a walk in defeat, with Yeltsin Gudiño, Matt Morgan and Reggie Pruitt adding a single apiece in the Lugnuts' fifth shutout loss of the year.
20-year-old Perez (Win, 5-4) handled a career high 6 2/3 innings, working around four hits and two walks while striking out five. Jonathan Teaney struck out Matt Morgan to escape a two-on, two-out jam in the seventh, and then All-Stars Tommy DeJuneas and Kyle Nelson worked a scoreless eighth and ninth respectively.
Lansing starter Colton Laws (Loss, 4-3) pitched four innings, striking out four and allowing two runs to score in both the second and third innings.
Brayden Bouchey equaled Laws with four strikeouts, notched over the next three innings, giving up one run on two hits. Brody Rodning handled the eighth and ninth innings, allowing two hits and one run with two strikeouts.
Left-hander Matt Gunter (5.31 ERA) pitches the middle affair in the three-game series, taking the mound at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday against Lake County right-hander Jean Carlos Mejia (3.05).
