Shaffer, Bats Snap Peoria's Six-Game Streak

Peoria, Illinois - The Kane County Cougars (37-37, 2-3) scored double digit runs for the second consecutive day in a 13-0 win over the Peoria Chiefs (43-32, 4-1) at Dozer Park on Monday night.

The Cougars scored four times in the first inning. The first run scored on an error by Chiefs' third baseman Elehuris Montero. Yoel Yanqui collected an RBI single. On the same play, Renae Martinez also scored on a throwing error by right fielder Scott Hurst. Ryan Grotjohn's sac fly made it 4-0.

In the middle innings, the Cougars scored three runs in each frame. In the fourth, Jancarlos Cintron belted a three-run homer, his fourth of the year, to give the Cougars a 7-0 advantage. In the fifth, Ernie De La Trinidad tucked a two-run homer inside the right field foul pole. Luis Lara made it a three-run frame with an RBI double. In the sixth, a two-run double by Renae Martinez and a sacrifice fly from Ernie De La Trinidad.

Cougar starter Brian Shaffer (3-5) earned his sixth quality outing of the year with seven shutout innings. Shaffer struck out seven batters and didn't walk anyone for his third straight time out. Abraham Almonte tossed two scoreless innings to finish off the game for the Cougars.

Peoria starter Alvaro Seijas (2-4) suffered the loss, allowing 10 runs (eight earned) on ten hits over 4.2 innings. C.J. Saylor coughed up three runs in 1.1 innings. Kodi Whitley fired two no-run frames. Position player Matt Fiedler hurled a scoreless ninth.
