
Cougars Defeat Chiefs 13-0

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs dropped a 13-0 decision to the Kane County Cougars in the series opener on Monday night. The Chiefs are now 4-1 in the second half and 43-32 overall with game two of the series set for Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead on Chiefs starter Alvaro Seijas in the top of the first.
Gabriel Maciel led off the game with a single and Jasrado Chisholm walked to put two runners on. Renae Martinez hit a ground ball that got past Elehuris Montero for a fielding error as Maciel scored for the first run of the game. Yoel Yanqui brought home Chisholm on a single to right and Scott Hurst's throw hit Martinez for another error as Martinez came around to score for a 3-0 lead. Ernie De La Trinidad singled put runners at the corners with nobody out and Ryan Grotjohn drove in Yanqui on a sacrifice fly to left as the Cougars led 4-0. Kane County used the long ball in the top of the fourth to widen the lead. Ernie De La Trinidad and Ryan Grotjohn singled as both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. With two outs, Jancarlos Cintron hit a three-run homer over the left field wall for a 7-0 advantage.
Another home run helped put the game out of reach in the top of the fifth. Martinez singled with one out and Ernie De La Trinidad delivered a two-run jack down the right field line. Grotjohn singled to knock Seijas out of the game and CJ Saylor entered out of the bullpen. Luis Lara drove Grotjohn in on a double to the gap in left center as the Cougars were comfortably ahead 10-0.
The Cougars took advantage of back-to-back walks by Cintron and Maciel to pour it on in the top of the sixth. With two runners on, Martinez slammed a one-out double off of the left field plating Cintron and Maciel for a 12-0 advantage. After Yanqui singled to put runners at the corners, the margin increased to 13-0 on a sacrifice fly to center by De La Trinidad to score Martinez.
Seijas (2-4) took the loss throwing 4 2/3 innings allowing eight earned runs on 10 hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Saylor pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing three runs on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Kodi Whitley pitched two scoreless innings on three hits with no walks and one strikeout. Position player Matt Fiedler threw a scoreless ninth inning only allowing one walk.

The Chiefs have been outscored 65-32 in the first inning this season...Peoria is 9-4 at home in the first game of a series...The Chiefs were shutout for the sixth time this season...Seijas allowed a career high eight earned runs and tied his career high in hits allowed with 10...After another caught stealing, Ortega has thrown out 50% of runners (15-of-30)...He has a six-game hit streak...Rodriguez made his first start at first base this season...He had his 10-game hit streak snap...Peoria's six game win streak was snapped as was a five-game home win streak...Fiedler became the first position player to pitch this season...The series continues at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday on Splash Day involving local summer camps where Chiefs staff will have super soakers and water balloons...Kids are also welcome to bring their own super soakers and there will be water themed games in between innings...Tuesday is a Two- For-Tuesday with this week's featured item being $2 ice cream sandwiches...Tuesday is also a Chick-Fil- A Thanks for your Service Tuesday where military veterans, first responders, police, fire and EMT workers can get $3 tickets with a valid ID; max 4 tickets per transaction....The Chiefs will start RH Franyel Casadilla (0-0, 0.00) against Kane County RH Jayson McKinley (0-0, 0.00)...The broadcast can be heard, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 10:45 a.m. on www.peoriachiefs.com/listenlive and is also available on the Peoria Chiefs Network in the Tune-In Radio App...The game is also available on MiLB.tv for subscribers.
