Great Lakes Loons News Release

DAYTON, Ohio - The Loons are one loss away from tying the franchise's longest losing streak after a 4-1 falling to the Dayton Dragons on a 79-degree night at Fifth Third Field Monday.

The 2017 club went on a 10-game slide from July 6-16. In Monday's series opener, both sides entered with eight-game losing streaks. The Loons managed one run and five hits against the pitching staff with the highest ERA in the Midwest League (5.28). It was also the first time Dayton scored more than three runs in a win since June 3.

Dodgers' fifth-round pick Devin Mann drove in the Loons' only run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the third inning. Right-hander Adrian Rodriguez continued to stymie the Loons' offense with six innings pitched and eight strikeouts. Rodriguez has allowed three runs in 11 innings against the Loons this season.

Familiar peccadilloes plagued the Loons on Monday: the team stranded nine runners on base and batted 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. On the nine-game losing streak, the Loons are stranding 8.4 runners per game and have batted .196 with runners in scoring position.

Starter Edwin Uceta matched his career-high with eight strikeouts (last: August 27, 2017 with the Ogden Raptors) in four innings, but the righty could not keep Dayton off the scoreboard in the early going; the Dragons scored a run in each of the first three frames. Two of Dayton's runs came with two outs in the inning.

Game two in the three-game set is Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

The Great Lakes Loons have been the Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers since the team's inception in 2007. Dow Diamond serves as the team's home and also houses the Michigan Baseball Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity, and ESPN 100.9-FM.
