Cedar Rapids, IA - A 3-for-4, three-RBI game by Luis Nunez, accentuated by a two-run double in the eighth, helped the Clinton LumberKings to an 8-4 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Perfect Game Field.

Nunez singled home a run as part of a three-run second inning, walked and scored the go-ahead run on Vinnie Catricala's double in the seventh and busted the game open with his two-run double down the right-field line in the eighth.

The LumberKings enjoyed a 3-0 lead as Nunez and company laced five singles off left-hander Stephen Locke. James Jones gave the Kings a 1-0 lead with a single and Gabriel Noriega added a sacrifice fly.

The Kernels cut the deficit to 3-1 as Mike Trout reached on a fielder's choice and scored on Jean Segura's RBI groundout in the third. Trout brought Cedar Rapids within a run in the fifth, legging out an infield single to score Carlos Ramirez from third.

Mario Martinez ripped an RBI double down the left-field line as part of an impressive 3-for-5 game, bringing the Clinton lead to 4-2. However, right-hander Taylor Lewis served up a pair of unearned runs after a dropped fly ball by Daniel Carroll, knotting the game at 4-4.

In the seventh, it was Nunez's leadoff walk and Catricala's opposite-field double to right that gave the LumberKings a 5-4 lead. Locke (L, 3-2) would be ejected by home plate umpire Javier Cantu right after the hit, ending his night at 6.1 innings. He allowed five runs on nine hits and struck out three in that span.

Right-hander Mike Kenney yielded the Nunez double and a Carroll infield single, giving up three more runs over 1.2 innings. Right-hander David Carpenter pitched a scoreless inning for the Kernels.

Left-hander Nick Czyz allowed two runs on five hits over 5.0 innings in the starting role for the LumberKings, but lost his chance to win on the blown save by Lewis. Instead, right-hander John Housey (W, 5-3) earned the victory with two hits over 3.1 innings.

The LumberKings (5-2) maintain a share of first place in back-to-back days for the first time this season. Clinton continues the series against Cedar Rapids (3-4) tomorrow night, first pitch from Perfect Game Field is scheduled for 6:35 PM. Right-hander Erasmo Ramirez (5-2, 2.88 ERA) will make his 11th start of the season. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN in Clinton or live on the web at 1390kcln.com.
