BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The TinCaps opened July in style Thursday, downing the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 9-2, at Bowling Green Ballpark. Rico Noel piled up three RBIs.
LHP Jose De Paula fired five scoreless innings, then RHP Matt Jackson chipped in two shutout frames, LHP Jeff Ibarra worked a scoreless eighth and RHP Miles Mikolas closed it out. Noel's bases-clearing triple in a five-run second inning was a key hit.
Fort Wayne jumped on LHP Kyle Lobstein, who had won his last three starts. In the top of the second, the TinCaps loaded the bases with one out. Jon Alia stroked an RBI single to left. Two batters later, Noel cracked a triple over the center fielder's head, making it a 4-0 game. After a walk, Jeudy Valdez legged out an infield single to drive home another run.
In the top of the fifth, the TinCaps struck again. Jason Hagerty doubled to center and scored on Nate Freiman's bloop double, pushing the lead to 6-0.
Fort Wayne loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the sixth and tacked on three more runs.
De Paula improved to 4-2 with the win; Bowling Green LHP Kyle Lobstein (5-4) labored through five innings and absorbed the loss.
