Norfolk Tides News Release

Four Norfolk pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout as the Tides blanked the Syracuse Chiefs 4-0 Monday night at Harbor Park.

Chris George (5-4) earned the win in relief for the Tides, as he allowed four hits in six strong innings in back of Mike Gonzalez, who started the contest on MLB rehab. George faced just five batters over the minimum, throwing 61 of his 86 pitches for strikes as he walked one and struck out two.

After a 58 minute rain delay, Gonzalez - rehabbing a left shoulder strain - struck out two while walking one in a scoreless inning of work. The 32-year-old southpaw threw 11 of his 19 pitches for strikes, with his fastball clocking between 90 and 93 mph on the stadium radar gun.

Jim Hoey and Pat Egan wrapped up the shutout with a scoreless inning apiece.

Michael Aubrey and Nolan Reimold both homered to pace the Tides offense, while Robert Andino added a third inning sacrifice fly to give him a team-high 56 runs batted in. Aubrey launched a solo homer in the sixth inning, and Reimold belted a two-run shot with two out in the eighth inning that chased Syracuse starter Jeff Mandel (2-5) from the contest.

The two home runs in the contest upped Norfolk's season total to 81, three more homers than the Tides hit during the entire 2009 campaign.

The Tides and Chiefs will continue their four-game set on Tuesday night, with first pitch slated for 7:15. Tim Bascom (2-4, 6.15) will take the hill for Norfolk against right-hander Erik Arnesen (2-5, 4.95).
