G-Braves Snap Losing Streak with 6-2 Win

The Gwinnett Braves defeated the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees 6-2 on Monday night at PNC Field. The G-Braves ended their three-game losing streak with tonight's win. Gwinnett starting pitcher Mike Minor earned his third win of the season, striking out 5 batters. Gwinnett (44-52) sits in fourth place in the International League South and 12.5 games behind Durham. Scranton/Wilkes Barre (56-40) remains in first place in the IL North division.

It Was Over When: In the top of the 5th inning, Freddie Freeman hit a three-run homer to put the Braves in front 4-2. Scranton/Wilkes Barre was never able to regain the lead.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Starter Mike Minor (3-0) allowed 2 R/ER on 5 hits in 6 innings of work. Steven Marek struck out 2 in 1.0 IP. Craig Kimbrel struck out 4 batters in 2 innings.

At the plate: Freeman was 2-for-4 with 4 RBI. Wes Timmons went 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored. Matt Young went 1-for-4 with 2 runs scored.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: Starter Sergio Mitre (0-1) allowed 3 R/ER on 4 hits in 4.2 IP. Eric Wordekemper allowed 3 R/ER on 3 hits.

At the plate: Jesus Montero went 3-for-3 with a run scored. Jorge Vazquez was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

On Deck: Gwinnett takes on Scranton/Wilkes Barre in game two of a four-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at PNC Field. G-Braves RHP Todd Redmond (8-8, 4.15 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Ivan Nova (7-2, 3.21 ERA) of the Yankees.
