Portland Sea Dogs News Release

(Manchester, NH) - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (37-44) used a 2-run first inning and six solid innings from their starter RHP Kenny Rodriguez (1-0) to beat the Portland Sea Dogs (38-42) 2-1 on July 4 at Merchantsauto.com Stadium in front of 8,072 fans (6th largest crowd in franchise history). The Sea Dogs had five hits and finished 0-for-7 with runners-in-scoring position.

RHP Jarod Plummer (6-4) was outstanding for Portland but took the loss, yielding four hits and two runs over 6 IP. With one out in the bottom of the first inning, LF Adam Calderone (1-for-4) laced a single to center field and scored on DH Brian Dopirak's RBI double off the right-center field wall. 1B David Cooper followed with a line drive single to right field, giving the Fisher Cats a 2-0 advantage. Plummer retired 17 of the final 19 batters he faced, issuing one walk and fanning six.

Portland scored their lone run in the third inning off Rodriguez (picked up his 2nd win in his Double-A career). CF Josh Reddick reached on a one-out infield single. SS Argenis Diaz pounded a double to the gap in right-center field which advanced Reddick to third base. LF Ryan Kalish's RBI ground out to first base was Portland's only run of the night. Rodriguez was promoted to New Hampshire on Saturday and surrendered only two base runners after the third inning.

LHP Rommie Lewis worked 1.2 scoreless frames to pick up his fifth hold of the season and RHP Danny Farquhar stranded two in the ninth inning and retired 3B Iggy Suarez on a comebacker to end the game. Farquhar fanned three and has a save in three consecutive outings.

RHP Chris Province tossed two scoreless frames for Portland in relief of Plummer. Portland's pitchers retired 22 of 26 after Cooper's game-winning hit in the first inning.
