Portland Winterhawks News Release

The Winterhawks could not find enough offense on Sunday night to capture a win against Kamloops. They fall at home in 5-2 fashion.

Special teams play got its work in the first period, but all five power play chances came and went without a goal. Blazers goaltender Dylan Garand made a tough save on a two-on-one shorthanded rush against Cody Glass and Lane Gilliss to help keep the game scoreless.

Kamloops was able to capitalize in the second. Josh Pillar takes a puck in the corner and fires it home for his second of the season and five minutes later, Kobe Mohr increases the lead on a transitional rush.

The third period began with a power play goal from the Blazers, but Cody Glass and the Winterhawks responded with a power play goal of their own a few seconds later. Glass banked a hard shot off a skate to register his fifth goal of the year.

Portland tried to muscle back in the game, but the Blazers tacked on a few more insurance markers to win the game 5-2. Ryan Hughes netted a 6-on-4 power play goal in the late stages of the contest.

Garand secures his first Western Hockey League victory, stopping 32 shots to conclude the weekend.

The Hawks play two games at home against the Victoria Royals next season. Friday, November 1st the Hawks drop the puck at 7:00 p.m. at the Moda Center. Individual tickets are now on sale. Be sure to visit winterhawks.com/tickets for full details on pricing and availability.
