January 3, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX 12/17/07 - The Central Hockey League announced today that Amarillo Gorillas forward David Nimmo has been named the CHL Sher-Wood player of the month for December. It is Nimmo's second recognition this season, as he was also the recipient of the 'Player of the Week' award for the week of December 10th through December 16th.
Nimmo played a huge offensive role in the Gorillas recent resurgence, helping the team to a record of 7-5-1 during December, by far the team's best month so far. The rookie out of St. Albert, Alberta joined the Gorillas at the end of training camp this season, and has been consistently one of their top offensive producers.
During the month of December, Nimmo registered twenty points on 10 goals and 10 assists and was a +2 overall. He had three power-play goals over that span and one game winning tally, the first of his career. Nimmo was recently named to the Southern Conference all-star team, for the game which is set to take place on Wednesday January 16th at the Broomfield Events Center.
With his strong play in December, Nimmo became the Gorillas leading scorer with his 32 points overall (18-14-32), and is the second leading rookie scorer in the league. Nimmo's 18 goals are most among rookies, and third overall in the CHL.
The 6-2, 220 pound forward out of the University of Alabama-Huntsville has been instrumental in getting the Gorillas back into the playoff picture in the Southern Conference. Entering Thursday night's game against the Rage, Amarillo sat just five points behind Corpus Christi for the fifth and final playoff spot.
