Scorpions Sting for Blood This Saturday

[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]- Be a hero to someone in need by donating blood this Saturday, January 5th during the Scorpions game against the Arizona Sundogs. Free hats will also be given away courtesy of Bank of Albuquerque.

United Blood Services will be at the Santa Ana Star Center from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, January 5th. They will be set up in the arena on the north concourse. All participants will receive a "Buy One, Get One Free" coupon to a future Scorpions home game. Donors will also be entered to win some great prizes including autographed memorabilia, t-shirts and pucks.

The donation itself takes around one hour. If you are 17 years of age or older, weigh at least 110 pounds and have not made a regular whole blood donation in the past eight weeks; you may be eligible to save a life. United Blood Services requires donors to show identification. Eat healthy meals and drink plenty of fluids before you donate.

United Blood Services has been the area's non-profit community blood provider since 1951, and serves patients in 42 hospitals in New Mexico and Four Corners Region. The United Blood Services network is one of the nation's oldest and largest non-profit blood service organizations and is founding member of America's Blood Centers and the American Association of Blood Banks.

New Mexico returns home for a pair of weekend games. On Friday, January 4th ring in 2008 when the Scorpions meet the Sundogs and on Saturday, January 5th when the Odessa Jackalopes come into town. Both games start at 7:15 p.m.

Saturday is Bank of Albuquerque Hat Night. The first 1,500 fans inside the beautiful Santa Ana Star Center will receive a black Scorpions hat for free.
