Rocky Mountain Hangs on to Top Spot in CHL Coaches Poll
Published on January 3, 2008 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
For the second straight poll, the Rocky Mountain Rage have claim on the #1 spot in the CHL Coaches Poll. The CHL's top team increased their lead in the poll by 20 points. The Laredo Bucks moved up from #4 to #2 and the Youngstown SteelHounds dropped from #2 to #3. The biggest jump in the poll came from the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs who moved from #9 to #5. No team dropped out of the poll. Five different teams received first place votes (Rocky Mountain, Laredo, Youngstown, Bossier-Shreveport and Mississippi), the most of any poll this season.
The Rage are 20-4-2 and own the CHL's highest winning percentage (.808). The Bucks own the most wins in the CHL (23) and have the highest winning percentage in the Southern Conference (.750). The big move from the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs comes as a result of their current eight-game win streak. The four division leaders are the Rage (NW), the SteelHounds and Mudbugs (NE), the Sundogs and the Jackalopes (SW) and the Bucks (SE).
Voting for the CHL Coaches Poll is done by the 17 CHL Head Coaches. The Rage received eight of the 17 first place votes (teams cannot vote for themselves).
The CHL Top 10 Coaches Poll is released at the beginning and the middle of each month throughout the season. Each first place vote receives 10 points, second place earns nine points, etc.
