Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA - Inland Empire has a new starting pitcher in their rotation as Eswarlin Jimenez has been promoted to Inland Empire from the Low A Cedar Rapids Kernals. He replaces Lay Batista who is on the 7 day disabled list with a strained right bicep.

Jimenez is pitching above the Dominican summer league for the first time in his career in 2012, and will now jump another level in joining the 66ers. He was 7-5 with a 3.51 ERA in 21 appearances in Low A including 17 starts. In three years in the Dominican summer league Jimenez maintained an ERA of 2.57 or better including a 1.72 earned run average in 2011.

Lay Batista was one of the top starters in the California League before being transitioned into the bullpen and now being placed on the disabled list. His 3.90 ERA is one of the 10 best in the California League in 2012, and his changeup has been rated one of the best in the Angels farm system.

Inland Empire is in its final homestand of the 2012 season, hosting the High Desert Mavericks and Lancaster JetHawks. The Fan Favorite Albert Pujols Bobblehead promotion is back Saturday, August 25th, and the 66ers will wrap up the season Thursday, August 30th with a Thirsty Thursday presented by Hanger 24. Tickets can be purchased at the 66ers box office and additional promotional information is available online at www.66ers.com.
