Giants Begin Four-Game Series At Rancho Cucamonga Tonight... The San Jose Giants begin a seven-game road trip this evening with the first of four straight contests against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes at The Epicenter. San Jose split four games with the visiting Visalia Rawhide in their most recent series. The Giants earned victories of 8-0 and 2-1 (10 innings) on Monday and Wednesday respectively while the Rawhide claimed a 7-5 decision on Tuesday and a 7-3 win last night. In yesterday's series finale, Visalia scored seven runs over the first two innings to jump out to a 7-0 lead en route to the victory. Rawhide starting pitcher Anthony Meo limited the Giants to a pair of hits and two runs (one earned) over six innings to record the win. Ryan Bradley took the loss after yielding seven runs (six earned) on nine hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Playoff Race... The Giants are attempting to reach the playoffs for a ninth consecutive season. San Jose can secure a postseason berth by clinching the best overall record in the North Division. The Giants (69-60) currently own a two-game lead over the Modesto Nuts (67-62) for the top mark in the division. San Jose could also reach the playoffs if Visalia is eliminated from second half title contention. Modesto (33-26) leads the North Division second half race by two games over the Giants (31-28) and four games over the Rawhide (29-30). Including tonight, there are 11 games remaining in the regular season. San Jose hasn't missed the playoffs since 2003.

Winning Ways... San Jose is 16-7 in their last 23 games dating back to July 29. During the stretch, San Jose has averaged 6.8 runs per contest and posted a 4.07 team ERA. The Giants haven't suffered back- to-back losses since July 27-28.

Duvall Sets Giants Single-Season Home Run Record... Third baseman Adam Duvall established a new San Jose Giants single-season home run record with his 27th of the year on August 17 in Stockton. Tim Flaherty held the previous mark of 26 home runs during the 2001 season. Duvall then connected for his 28th homer this season last Sunday against the Ports. He's hit 12 home runs over his last 26 games, including a stretch of five consecutive games with a homer from August 3-8. Duvall hit 12 home runs during the first half and has 16 in the second half. The 28 home runs overall lead the entire San Francisco Giants organization.

Versus The South Division... The Giants are 20-17 against South Division teams this season (49-43 versus the North). San Jose has posted just a 7-11 record against South Division clubs during the second half. The Giants and Quakes have split six meetings this season (all at Municipal Stadium). San Jose swept a three-game series from April 16-18 before Rancho Cucamonga swept three games from July 7-9.

Giants In The Cal League Rankings... Adam Duvall is currently tops in the California League in home runs (28), third in runs scored (94) and tied for sixth in RBI's (89). Ricky Oropesa ranks tied for third in RBI's (91) while Joe Panik is tied for sixth in hits (142). Pitchers Taylor Rogers (11) and Jack Snodgrass (10) are second and tied for third respectively in wins. As a team, the Giants are fourth in the league in runs scored (5.3 per game) and third in ERA (4.57). San Jose is also first in shutouts (10) while the pitching staff has allowed the fewest home runs (86) in the league.

Brad Penny To Rehab Tonight... San Francisco Giants pitcher Brad Penny is scheduled to begin a rehabilitation assignment with San Jose in tonight's game. Penny, who is recovering from a right shoulder impingement, is 0-1 with a 6.86 ERA in 15 relief appearances with San Francisco this season.

Panik Surges In Second Half... Shortstop Joe Panik is batting .324 with five home runs and 42 RBI's in the second half (55 games) after hitting at a .257 clip with two homers and 30 RBI's during the first half (66 games). The former first round draft pick is also batting . 376 (50-for-133) over his last 33 games. Panik leads the Giants in hits (142), is second in doubles (26), third in RBI's (72) while he's also the toughest player to strikeout in the California League (one every 10.79 at-bats).

Home/Road Comparison... The Giants have hit considerably better on the road this season (.276 AVG, 6.6 runs per game) compared to at home (. 251 AVG, 4.1 runs per game). San Jose's team ERA at home is 4.10 while it's at 5.07 on the road. The Giants have won nine out of their last 10 road games. Tonight marks the beginning of San Jose's final road trip of the regular season (four games at Rancho Cucamonga, three games at Lake Elsinore).

Opponent Notes: Rancho Cucamonga Quakes... The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, an affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, enter this evening's contest having lost five out of their last six games. Rancho Cucamonga's overall record of 63-66 is two games behind the Lake Elsinore Storm (65-64) for the final playoff spot in the South Division. The Quakes are tied for fifth in the league in batting average (.270) and seventh in ERA (4.92). Right-hander Angel Sanchez (6-9, 6.01 ERA) is slated to make the start on the mound in tonight's series opener.
