Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals' (5-6) pitching staff struck out 14, but were shut out with two hits on Wednesday night against the Amarillo Sod Poodles (6-5) at Arvest Ballpark. The two teams continue their six-game series on Thursday night with a 7:05 PM CT first pitch.

*Anthony Veneziano (1-1) *started the evening strong, holding the Sod Poodles scoreless through the first three innings of the game until the fourth when *Tristin English *hit a solo homer to give Amarillo a 1-0 lead. Adrian Del Castillo hit another in the fifth against the lefty to make it a 2-0 game, all while the Naturals were hitless until the eighth.

Morgan McCullough lined a double to left to break up the no-hitter in the eighth while Jeison Guzmán *singled in the ninth, but Northwest Arkansas was 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position on the night and fell 5-0, snapping a three-game winning streak. Veneziano took the loss, allowing two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts, combining with *Jonah Dipoto *and *Christian Chamberlain to punch out 14. That extended the Naturals' streak of 10 or more strikeouts to 11 consecutive games, the longest to start a season in club history.

The Naturals look to bounce back on Thursday against Amarillo as Jonathan Bowlan takes the mound with a 7:05 PM CT first pitch.
