Nats Top Prospect Makes Debut
April 27, 2019 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Hagerstown Suns News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD (APRIL 27, 2019) - Carter Kieboom made his major league debut for the Washington Nationals Friday night. He finished the night 1-4 with a fly ball home run that traveled over the center field fence at Nationals Park.
The 2016 first-round pick had been devastating AAA pitching in 18 games with the Fresno Grizzlies this year. While on the West Coast, he compiled a .379/.506/.636 slash line, giving him a 1.142 OPS to go along with 10 extra base hits in his brief stint with the Grizzlies.
The 21-year-old's stay in Hagerstown was brief as well. In 2017, the shortstop played 48 games in the Hub City, earning a .296 average, smacking eight homers and driving in 26 RBI before he moved up to Potomac in 2018.
All his stops in the minors were brief, after breezing through the Carolina League in 61 games, he moved up to Harrisburg to finish 2018 and maintained a .326 on-base percentage in the Eastern League as a 20-year-old. To put that in perspective, the average player in AA last year was four years older than the Georgia-native.
In his three years in Minor League Baseball, Kieboom has been named a Washington Nationals Organization All-Star the last two years. He was placed in the Future's game last year while he was playing for the Harrisburg Senators. In addition to that, he was named a Carolina League Mid-Season All-Star in 2018.
Kieboom is the fourth former Suns player to make his debut this year and the is the 223rd former Hagerstown player to make his first Major League start.
