Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK -- The winning streak for Round Rock ended at three Friday as Nashville cranked out 14 hits in an 8-2 win at The Dell Diamond.
Newly acquired right-hander Billy Sadler allowed one hit over two innings of his first start since joining the team Thursday from the Rookie-Level Gulf Coast League Astros where he made three rehab appearances. Sader, an LSU alum, was recently signed out of the San Francisco farm system where he had been on injury waivers after going 5-3 with a 5.34 ERA over 13 starts with Triple-A Fresno.
This marks Sadler's first season as a full-time starter since being drafted by the Giants in 2003.
Usual starter Polin Trinidad (6-4) came on for 4 2/3 innings after Sadler and allowed six runs (5 ER) on seven hits, four walks and eight strikeouts, earning his second consecutive loss.
Round committed four errors, including three on ground balls in the outfield, taking away from strong offensive nights by Reggie Abercrombie and Chris Johnson, who both had two hits. Mark Saccomanno and Brian Bogusevic tacked on a double apiece.
Abercrombie singled to lead the game off and scored on Johnson's two-out single to left-center, giving the Express a 1-0 lead against Sounds starter Tim Dillard. The same combination -- a lead-off single from Abercrombie and a subsequent Johnson single -- gave Round Rock its only other run in the bottom of the third.
Dillard (11-7) scattered eight hits and fanned five over eight frames, snapping a three-game losing streak that dated back to July 22.
By the time Round Rock picked up its two runs, Nashville had begun its assault. Carlos Corporan reached first on a fielding error by Matt Kata to start the top of the third and Adam Stern drew a one-out walk. Corey Patterson followed up with a game-tying single past second and moved to second when Abercrombie bobbled the ball in right field. J.J. Hardy followed up with a 2-run double, giving the Sounds a 3-1 edge.
Trinidad issued a pair of walks and a base hit before handing the ball over to Roy Corcoran with two down in the seventh. Tike Redman lifted a looping single down the leftfield line, pushing two runs across. Corporan's follow up RBI-single past short made it a four-run game.
Erick Almante made it 8-2 with a two-out, two-run blast of Geoff Geary in the top of the ninth.
The two teams meet again Saturday at The Dell Diamond at 7:05 p.m.
