Aces blanked by 51s

Reno Aces News Release

LAS VEGAS, Nev.-Tony Barnette's bid to become the PCL's first 13-game winner was derailed Thursday night, as the Las Vegas 51s slipped past the Reno Aces 1-0 at Cashman Field.

The game was knotted at 0-0 through four innings before the 51s broke through in the fifth with the game's first and only run. Consecutive singles to lead off the inning followed by a sacrifice bunt put two runners in scoring position with one away in the frame. That set up an Adam Calderone sacrifice fly that put Las Vegas ahead, 1-0. As it would turn out, that would be all the offense the 51s would need.

Barnette (12-8) was the hard-luck loser, allowing just a run on six hits over six innings of work. Barnette walked three and punched out four. Out of the Aces bullpen, Jason Urquidez and Jose Marte combined to keep the 51s off the board over the game's final two frames.

Sean Stidfole (3-1) worked two innings of relief to pick-up the victory, while Jeremey Accardo earned his 11th save with a scoreless ninth inning.

Reno managed seven hits on Thursday night, with Brandon Watson leading the way with a pair of singles.

With the loss, Reno has officially been eliminated from playoff contention. The defeat also snaps a five-game winning streak.

The series continues Friday night from Cashman Field. RHP Daniel Cabrera (0-1, 14.40 ERA) takes the ball for Reno. The 51s counter with LHP Davis Romero (3-4, 6.01 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT.

The Aces return home on Aug. 31 for the final homestand of the 2009 season. For tickets, call (775) 334-7000, visit RenoAces.com or stop by the Aces Ballpark Box Office.
