Frederick Keys News Release

Winston-Salem, N.C. -Omar Narvaez gave the Winston-Salem Dash their first walk-off win of the season on Saturday night with a single to right-center as the Frederick Keys fell 6-5 in 11 innings at BB&T Ballpark. The loss drops the Keys to 10 games below .500 for the first time this season, while the orange and black suffered just their second extra-inning loss of the campaign.

In the 11th, the Dash rallied with two outs against Williams Louico. After Michael Suiter flied out to right, the Keys right-hander struck out Adam Engel on three pitches. From there, the next three would reach as Jake Peter singled to center and Trey Michalczewski and Keon Barnum both walked. That sent up Narvaez who fell into a 1-2 hole, but the Dash catcher drove the next pitch into right-center to give Winston-Salem the win.

That was the first scoring since the seventh inning, as both bullpens combined to allow just two hits from the eighth through 10th frames. Frederick briefly regained the lead in the seventh against Andre Wheeler, thanks to a single by Josh Hart, a groundout and an RBI single by Chance Sisco.

However the home team countered to make it a 5-5 affair. Back-to-back singles by Engel and Peter set the table, before the Keys summoned Donnie Hart from the bullpen. The lefty issued a walk to Michalczewski, before plunking Keon Barnum to force in the tying run.

Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision, as both sides traded runs the entire night. A pair of walks by Luis Gonzalez and an RBI double by Barnum gave Winston-Salem a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, before the orange and black countered with three in the second. Following a walk to Jeff Kemp and a single by Austin Wynns, Wynston Sawyer tripled off Matt Heidenreich to score both runners, before scoring himself on a fielder's choice.

Wynns added an RBI single in the third, while a pair of doubles by Barnum and Nolan Early retied the game in the home-half of the frame.

Brad Goldberg (1-1) earned the win in relief, tossing a clean 11th inning, while Louico (2-2) suffered the losing allowing a run on two hits as well as two-walks in the later portion of the inning. Gonzalez allowed four runs in four-plus innings to go along with five hits, five walks and two strikeouts. Heidenreich was denied his ninth win, giving up four runs (three earned) in five stanzas.
