Carolina Mudcats News Release
Tonight the Mudcats look to bounce back from their rough Independence Day loss with a win in game two of a three game series against visiting Myrtle Beach at Five County Stadium. The Mudcats suffered their worst loss of the season last night after falling 16-4 to the Pelicans. Tonight they turn to RHP Lucas Sims for the game two start. The former first round pick (2012) by the Braves makes his first start for the Mudcats since being placed on the disabled list on 5/14. Sims is 2-3 with a 5.20 ERA over six starts this season. He was 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA over his previous two starts immediately before being placed on the DL (2gs, 13.0ip, 12h, 3r, 2er, 2bb, 10so). Sims went the distance and earned a complete game win in his last start during a shortened doubleheader game in Salem on 5/9. He struck out six, walked one and scattered seven hits while allowing just one unearned run his last time out for Carolina. Sims recently returned to the Mudcats after finishing two rehab outings with the Gulf Coast League Braves. He was 0-0 with a 9.00 ERA (5.0ip, 7h, 7r, 5er, 2bb, 7so) over two starts with the GCL Braves before returning to Carolina.
