Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (July 5, 2015) - Behind seven strong innings from southpaw Mitch Horacek, the Frederick Keys downed the Winston-Salem Dash by a score of 5-2 on Sunday evening at BB&T Ballpark.

The Dash (6-4, 36-44) jumped out to an early lead in the second. Nolan Earley singled, and Toby Thomas reached on an error to start the frame. After a sacrifice bunt and strikeout, Adam Engel and Jake Peter put together consecutive RBI singles to put Winston on the board at 2-0. Peter's knock extended his hitting streak to 13 games and marked the 33rd time in the last 35 games he recorded at least one hit.

From there, Horacek (5-8) dominated the Dash. The Frederick left-hander retired the final 16 batters he faced in his seven-inning performance, during which he allowed just two unearned runs by scattering four hits. He walked one and fanned six.

The Keys (4-7, 36-45) took the lead with a four-run fourth. Jeff Kemp singled, Brenden Webb doubled and Austin Wynns hit a sacrifice fly to put Frederick on the board at 2-1. Wynston Sawyer followed with a run-scoring single to tie the game before Tanner Witt's RBI double put Frederick up 3-2. After a single by Jay Gonzalez, Witt came in to score on Josh Hart's RBI groundout.

Winston-Salem starter James Dykstra (3-6) was charged with those four runs on a career-high 12 hits in six innings of work. He fanned five and walked one in his losing effort.

Jake Cose relieved Dykstra to begin the seventh and issued a leadoff walk to Adrian Marin. Two batters later, Marin raced home from first on Jeff Kemp's double to place the Keys at a 5-2 advantage.

Matt Taylor worked a perfect eighth, extending the streak of Dash batters retired in a row to 19 before Keon Barnum singled to lead off the ninth. However, Taylor earned the final three outs for his first save of the campaign.

Behind Dykstra and Cose, Jefferson Olacio and Euclides Leyer faced the minimum in the eighth and ninth, respectively.

The rubber match of the three-game set features Jordan Guerrero (1-1, 5.72 ERA) for the Dash against Frederick's Chris Lee (2-4, 4.58 ERA). Pregame radio coverage is available at 6:45 p.m., with the first pitch at 7 p.m. on wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn App.
