Narron Pitches Sounds by 'Birds

MEMPHIS, TN - Nashville used strong starting pitching to beat Memphis 5-1 Saturday night at AutoZone Park in front of 11,089 fans.

Sam Narron tossed eight sturdy innings to earn the win for the Sounds. The lefty allowed one run on 10 hits stranding at least one runner in six of his eight frames. He issued no walks and struck out five for his fourth win of the year. Memphis received a solid outing from David Kopp, who took the loss. Kopp allowed four runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings leaving in the seventh with Memphis trailing 2-1. The right-hander settled down after allowing two runs on four hits in the first to allow only two hits over the next five innings.

Lorenzo Cain led Nashville going 2-for-4 with two RBI while Ben Johnson chipped in three hits in the win. Memphis collected 10 hits on the night with four different players picking up two hits each. Kopp drove in the ‘Birds lone run with a single in the third inning.

Memphis and Nashville wrap up the first half of the Pacific Coast League season tomorrow afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1:35 p.m. Following the game fans will be invited onto the field to play catch. The Redbirds hand the ball to P.J. Walters to face Sounds southpaw Chuck Lofgren.
