Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - The Rainiers let a late-inning lead slip away in an 8-7 loss to Fresno at Cheney Stadium on Friday, halting Tacoma's win streak at a season-high nine games.

Carrying a 7-6 advantage into the top of the eighth inning, the Rainiers watched as Grizzlies designated hitter Tyler Graham belted a two-run home run with out to put Fresno on top for good.

Tacoma was the one sporting their rally caps earlier in the outing after erasing a 6-3 Fresno lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Outfielder Greg Halman's RBI single scored Adam Moore from third to start things off. David Winfree followed with a two-run home run one batter later. A double from second baseman Jack Hannahan polished off the inning with a double that drove in Mike Wilson.

The outfielder Winfree proved to be the star performer for the Rainiers in the losing effort, ending the night going 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Fresno's Tyler Graham was the headliner for the Grizzlies after complimenting his go-ahead eighth-inning home run with four RBI.

Fresno reliever Henry Sosa picked up his sixth win of the season after tossing 3.2 scoreless innings and giving up three hits with three strikeouts. Left-hander Geno Espineli recorded his seventh save of the season following a night where he allowed just one hit with three strikeouts over the game's final frame.

Reliever Yusmeiro Petit was tagged with his second loss for Tacoma after giving up two runs on three hits over 4.1 innings of work with eight punchouts.

Reigning Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week Michael Pineda struggled through his fourth start with the Rainiers this season. The right-hander surrendered a season-high six runs on five hits over 3.1 innings in a no decision, while walking three and fanning two.

The Rainiers return to Cheney Stadium at 7 p.m. on Saturday night to take on Fresno in the third game of their four-game set with the Grizzlies.
