Z's and Cubs split double dip

The Zephyrs and Iowa Cubs met in a doubleheader on Friday night and the teams split the two games in front of 12,582 fans at Principal Park. The Zephyrs used four solo home runs in game one to defeat the Cubs 6-3. Iowa starting pitcher Austin Bibens-Dirkx pitched five solid innings allowing one run and earned his first career Triple A win. The Cubs defeated the Zephyrs 6-1. Iowa scored three runs in the fourth inning and held on for the win. The Z's offense managed four hits in the night cap.

Game Notes- Gookie Dawkins drilled a solo home run in game one and extended his hitting streak to a team best 12 games. He did not play in game two. Scott Cousins had a nine game hit streak snapped. The Marlins promoted pitcher Dan Meyer. The Marlins optioned Tim Wood to the Z's. Kasey Olenberger was activated from the disabled list and pitched 0.2 of an inning. The Z's are now 10-3 on Friday's this season.

Coming Up: The Zephyrs and Iowa Cubs will meet in game four of the five game series on Saturday at 7. The Z's will start Brian Lawrence (8-5, 3.83) against RH jay Jackson 4-6, 3.89. Lawrence is 4-0 in his last five starts with a 2.32 ERA. RADIO WMTI 106.1 FM
