Sounds sweep doubleheader

MEMPHIS, TN - Nashville swept a doubleheader from Memphis Friday night at AutoZone Park winning 6-4 and 6-5.

In the first game, Adam Stern led the Sounds going 3-for-3 from the leadoff spot. Ben Johnson drove in two runs and scored twice for Nashville in the win. Ruben Gotay provided all of the Memphis offense on one hit with a grand slam in the fifth inning. However, Mike McLendon nailed down the victory with 2.2 scoreless innings of relief for the Sounds to pick up the win. Memphis starter Lance Lynn took the loss giving up five runs, four earned, on seven hits across four innings.

In the nightcap, Stern again played a major role in the win for Nashville belting a solo home run in the sixth inning to tie the game. Mat Gamel drove in the go-ahead run and Chris Smith notched his league-best 18th save to finish off the doubleheader sweep. Memphis scored four runs in the first inning to claim an early lead but again could only come up with three hits in the loss. Nashville starter Tim Dillard earned the win giving up five runs, three earned, on three hits in his five innings of work. Josh Kinney was pinned with the loss for the ‘Birds giving up two runs in his lone inning of work.

The Redbirds and Sounds play tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. with fireworks post-game sponsored by Lumiere Place Hotel and Casino.
