Nailers With Back To Back Action Wednesday And Thursday

Wheeling Nailers News Release


The Nailers will take the ice at Sovereign Center in Reading PA against the Royals Wednesday night and will return to Wheeling Thursday against the Toledo Walleye to bring in the New Year.

The Nailers will have their traditional New Years' Eve game on Thursday, December 31st matchup against Bryan "Boomer" Ewing and the Toledo Walleye on Michael Jackson Tribute Night! Walleye have won 8 in a row. Toledo's last loss was in early December when they dropped back to back games against Wheeling 4-1 and 7-3.

Notes

The Nailers climbed back to the.500 mark for the second time this season on Sunday December 27 with their 4-3 win over Elmira. Wheeling now has a record of 15-15-2 and is trying to pass the.500 mark for the first time this season.

The Nailers are 9th in the conference trailing Gwinnett by one point. The top 8 teams out of 12 in the American Conference will advance to the Kelly Cup Playoffs in April.

Casey Pierro-Zabotel is the top scorer in December with 6 goals and 6 assists for a total of 12 points. He has 7 goals and 15 assists for 22 points for the season.

T.J. Fox and Kyle Bushee both had a 2 goal game Saturday December 26 at Kalamazoo.

Thomas Beauregard had a 2 goal game December 18 at Florida. He is tied with Matt Fornataro of South Carolina for second in the league both with 18 goals in 32 games trailing Ryan Kinasewich of Utah with 20 goals in 22 games.

Colin Power scored Sunday December 27 against the Elmira Jackals, his first as a Wheeling Nailer and his second of the season.

Teslak was assigned to Wheeling a little over a week ago by the Philadelphia Flyers organization from the AHL's Adirondack Phantoms. Teslak played all of last year for Elmira and played for them the majority of this season so far as well. The Michigan Tech product picked up his first win as a Nailer in his 2nd game.

Head Coach Greg Puhalski takes on his original pro hockey home of Toledo. The "Chief" got his start in professional hockey with the Toledo Storm as a player and coach for the team for a combined 7 years. Toledo head coach Nick Vitucci was teammates and later a player under Puhalski during his stay. Puhalski is 4th all-time on the Toledo Storm scoring chart and also set the league record for highest winning percentage in a coach's first two seasons.
