Reading's Cruthers Named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Ryan Cruthers of the Reading Royals is the Sher-wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Dec. 21-27.

The 25 year old tied his career high with three assists and four points in a 4-3 win at Trenton on Dec. 27 and had a pair of assists at Elmira on Dec. 26.

He has a four-game assist streak (7a) and a four-game point streak (1g-7a) and is tied for the team lead with 24 assists and ranks second with 31 points in 26 games.

Cruthers played in the ECHL as a rookie in 2008-09 and had 66 points (29g-37a) in 65 games for Mississippi and was selected to the ECHL All-Star Game. He also played in the American Hockey League where he had two assists in five games for Lake Erie and appeared in four games with Albany.

After completing his college career in 2007-08, he signed with Utah and had two assists in four regular season games and five points (1g-4a) in 15 games in the Kelly Cup Playoffs to help the Grizzlies advance to the National Conference Finals.

He played two seasons at Robert Morris University and had 86 points (39g-47a) in 68 games from 2006-08 and also played two years for Army where he had 34 points (11g-23a) in 47 games from 2003-05.

On behalf of Ryan Cruthers, a case of pucks will be donated to a Reading youth hockey organization by Sher-wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-wood Hockey has donated more than 23,100 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.

Also Nominated: Scott Reynolds (Cincinnati), Matt Duffy (Florida), Matt Siddall (Gwinnett), Rick Cleaver (Kalamazoo), Chris D'Alvise (Stockton), Tim Crowder (Utah) and Wes Goldie (Victoria).
