Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers scored three power-play goals, for the second game in a row, to down the Trenton Devils 5-3 Friday night at WesBanco Arena. Seamus Young broke a 3-3 tie in the third to put the Nailers ahead for good in the first of two "Pink in the Rink" nights to benefit breast cancer patients in the Upper Ohio Valley.

Wheeling improves to 3-2-0 on the year while the Devils dropped their second consecutive contest to fall to 2-5-0. Sean Collins, Kevin Du and Adam Henrich all chipped in with multi-assist nights and Martin Houle stopped 24 of 27 shots sent his way. The Nailers have not had a player score more than one goal in a game in the first five games of the season.

Kyle Rank jump started the Nailers with his second goal of the season just 2:35 into the opening frame. Rank's wrist shot bounced off a crowd of players in front of the goal and deflected past Jason Smith with assists from Kevin Croxton and Kevin Du.

The Nailers struck again a mere 36 seconds later with Paul Bissonnette's second goal of the year. Collins and Henrich were credited with assists as Bissonnette buried his own rebound as he drove along the goal line.

Although the Nailers outshot the Devils 17-3 in the first period, the score remained 2-0 heading into the first intermission. When the second period began, Wheeling was enjoying a five-on-three advantage. It took only 25 seconds into the period for Ned Havern to slide his backhander through. It was his fourth goal of the year and third on the power play. Henrich and Paul Bissonnette assisted on the goal.

Trenton used their power play to get right back into the game. After goals from Andrew Leach at 10:19 and Trevor Kell at 17:58, the Nailers lead was just 3-2 at the end of the second period. The Devils completed the comeback at 5:46 of the third when Beau McLaughlin roofed a backhander on Houle for his second of the season.

Du, who was stopped on a penalty shot at 11:59 of the second period, set up Young for the game-winner at 9:56. A perfect pass through the top of the crease left Young to tap the puck in to an uncontested net.

Kevin Croxton provided the insurance when Henrich slid a perfect pass through the slot to Croxton waiting on the goal line. Croxton and Havern remain tied for the team lead with four goals.

"Pink in the Rink" continues Saturday night with the Johnstown Chiefs in town. It will be the fourth and final game of the home stand for the Nailers. Gametime is set for 7:35. One dollar from every ticket sold plus 100 percent of the proceeds from the postgame jersey auction will be donated to help breast cancer patients.
