Columbia Inferno News Release
COLUMBIA, S.C. (Nov. 2, 2007)- Brad Ralph and Daniel Sparre both had a pair of goals as the Inferno scorched the Augusta Lynx 6-3 Friday night in front of almost 3,000 fans at the Carolina Coliseum. It was the second straight victory for the Inferno, and third of their last four.
Center Marc Cavosie kick-started the Inferno's scoring explosion halfway through the first when he converted a Tyler Doig pass into his first goal of the season, beating Augusta goalie J.P. Levasseur. Ralph notched his first of the night just 30 seconds later at the 10:39 mark, followed by a Jeff Miles goal at 11:52 to open a 3-0 lead.
Sparre tallied his fourth goal of the season 32 seconds into the second period when he batted a Phil Oreskovic rebound past Levasseur. Augusta winger Jason Kostadine put the Lynx on the board 1:42 into the middle frame when he took advantage of a misplay by Inferno goalie Todd Ford, beating the Maple Leafs prospect with a backhander from the crease. Ralph stretched the lead back to four goals when his slapper from the far circle eluded Levasseur's glove, making the game 5-1 and ending the Lynx netminder's night.
Sparre grabbed another goal three minutes into the third to open a 6-1 lead when he converted a cross-ice pass from defenseman Todd Perry and snapped the puck from the far circle low on Nathan Marsters' blocker side. The Lynx continued to fight, however, when winger Matt Johnson scored his first goal of the season with 12 minutes left, beating Ford with a backhand from the slot. Augusta defenseman Adrian Veideman also scored his first of the season with 4:30 left in the third when he tipped a perfect cross-crease pass from winger Grant Goeckner-Zeller past Ford's outstretched blocker.
Ford, winning his second game in as many starts, finished with 32 saves on 35 shots. Marsters stopped 17 of 18, while Levasseur turned aside 15 of 20 in his first loss of the season.
The Inferno conclude their five-game homestand Saturday, Nov. 3rd against the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:05 p.m. Group tickets, season tickets, fundraisers and the coolest birthday parties in town are all available by calling 803.256.7825 or by logging on to the newly redesigned ColumbiaInferno.com.
