PHOENIX, Ariz. - Justin Maiser tallied a pair of goals including the eventual game-winner 43 seconds into the third period to lift the Phoenix RoadRunners to a 3-2 victory over the Fresno Falcons before 2,017 at US Airways Center in ECHL action Thursday.

Maiser opened the scoring for Phoenix (4-2-0) just 1:12 into the game tipping Brian Yandle's pass by the stick of Fresno goalie Kris Mayotte and giving the RoadRunners a 1-0 lead.

Fresno (2-2-2) wasted little time tying the contest at 1-1 early in the second period. Jarrett Konkle beat RoadRunners goalie Nathan Lawson with a shot from outside the left-wing circle 49 seconds into the period to even up the score. The RoadRunners would grab the lead back at 10:36 of the second on the power play when Sean O'Connor re-directed Yandle's point shot through the pads of Mayotte for a 2-1 advantage.

Maiser potted his second goal of the game early in the third period on a nifty pass from Peder Skinner extending the RoadRunners lead to 3-1. Oren Eizenman cut the Falcons deficit to 3-2 scoring at 11:13 of the third, but Fresno would get no closer.

Fresno out-shot Phoenix 38-33. Lawson stopped 36 shots to improve to 2-1-0 on the season. The RoadRunners went 1-5 on the power play and held Fresno to 0-3 with the man-advantage.

Notes: Maiser is now tied for the ECHL lead with his six goals...Yandle now has five points (two goals and three assists) in his last two games...Defenseman Chris Murray returned to the RoadRunners' line-up after missing two games due to injury...With goalie Cody Rudkowsky still on loan to Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League, the RoadRunners signed goalie Tim Baumgartner as their emergency back-up. Baumgartner made his professional debut Jan. 12, 2007 at US Airways Center as a member of the Idaho Steelheads when he was forced into action in the second period. Baumgartner allowed five goals on 20 shots and suffered the loss in a 7-5 RoadRunners win.

The RoadRunners continue their season opening 12-game home-stand at 7:11 p.m. Saturday as they conclude a two-game series with the Fresno Falcons at US Airways Center.
