Idaho Steelheads News Release

Stockton, CA - Three power play goals, including two in the third period, helped the host Stockton Thunder break open a close game as the Steelheads fell 4-0 in front of 8,105 fans at Stockton Arena on Friday night.

It was the first regulation loss for the Steelheads (2-1-3) this season and their first in their last 14 regular season games dating back to last year. The Thunder (3-3-0) have now won three in a row overall and eight consecutive regular season games on home ice since March 14 of last season.

There was no scoring in the first period, as the Steelheads were out-shot by the Thunder 9-6 and the two teams combined for five power play opportunities.

With just 1:28 left in the second period the Thunder broke the scoreless tie on a power play goal by Jesse Bennefield. Forwards Jacob Micflikier and former Steelhead Andy Contois set up Bennefield's team-leading fifth of the season, as he stationed himself at the post to the right of Steelheads' goaltender Steve Silverthorn (27 saves) and slammed Micflikier's feed just over the right pad of the sprawled out netminder.

At the second intermission the Thunder led 1-0 on the scoreboard and 23-15 in shots.

Two more power play goals in the third period separated by just 1:18 gave the Thunder some breathing room. Ryan O'Marra tallied off a left circles wrist shot on a five-on-three advantage and defenseman Sebastien Bisallion blasted home a one-timer for his first professional goal to make it 3-0. O'Marra added an empty-netter for his fourth goal in just three games to round out the scoring. Bennefield and Phil Cole picked up the assists on that tally.

The final shots favored the Thunder, 31-26. The loss ended the Steelheads' season-long streak with a power play goal, as they finished zero-for-six, while the Thunder went three-for-eight. Thunder rookie goaltender Glenn Fisher (26 saves) is currently riding a 121:40 shutout streak, while four home skaters had multiple point nights in the Steelheads first shutout defeat since January 5, a 1-0 loss versus the Thunder.

The Steelheads and Thunder hook up again on Saturday, November 3, with face-off from Stockton Arena at 8:30 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on 1350 AM, KTIK "The Ticket" or via the B2 Networks. Don't forget, Steelheads' single-game tickets can be purchased via www.idahosteelheads.com (using the print-at-home feature), by calling 331-TIXS or from the Qwest Arena box office.
