This Week's Recap and Results

Wednesday, Jan. 12: Wheeling 4 at Trenton ‚¬" 1

Nailers goaltender Peter Delmas stopped 32 of 33 shots in his Nailers debut, earning his first career ECHL Victory. After being reassigned by Wilkes-Barre Scranton of the American Hockey League, Ben Street arrived at Sun National Bank Center just two hours prior to game time, and posted a four-point night scoring a pair of goals and adding two assists. Mikael Bedard also scored twice, as the Nailers controlled the game's tempo from start to finish, to secure the 4-1 win over the Devils.

Friday, Jan 14: Wheeling ‚¬" 6 at Cincinnati -- 3

Wheeling raced out to a 3-0 first period lead in this physical battle of the top two teams in the North Division receiving goals from Nick Petersen, Joey Haddad, and Ben Street. The Nailers outshot the Cylones 18-6 in the opening period. The two teams would trade off the game's next six goals. The Nailers sealed the game on an empty net goal by Casey Pierro-Zabotel and solid goaltending down the stretch from Patrick Killeen who made 25 saves. The win extended the Nailers lead in the division to five points.

Saturday, Jan 15: Cincinnati ‚¬" 3 at Wheeling -- 2

The Nailers looked to extend their division lead to seven, with a win in front of the largest crowd of the season of 4,263 at WesBanco Arena. However, the Cyclones had other ideas as Christian Minella scored the game's first goal at 13:26 of the first period. The lead was short lived as nearly 90 seconds later, Ben Street redirected a shot in front past Chet Pickard tying the game at one.

In the second, Mathieu Aubin grabbed the lead right back for the Cyclones, who took control of the second period and the first half of the third. Wheeling received a 4-on-3 power play halfway through the third, and Nick Petersen fed a cross ice pass to Street who ripped on the one timer past Pickard to tie the game at two. The goal was Street's team leading 19th of the year. The Nailers surged offensively over the game's next eight minutes, but Pickard stood tall to keep the game tied at two. With nearly a minute remaining in regulation, a Nailers turnover from behind the net, was flipped in front by the Cyclones to a wide open Mathieu Aubin, who chipped it past Patrick Killeen for the game winning goal with just 58 seconds remaining.

The win pulled Cincinnati to within three points of Wheeling in the North Division, heading into this Tuesday "Rubber Match" at US Bank Arena.
