Atlanta Gladiators News Release

Comeback Kids: Entering last week, the Gladiators (19-17-6) were winless when trailing entering the third period. In all three of their games last week however they mounted third period comebacks to improve to 2-14-5 in that situation and extend their streak to six straight without a loss.

Back to the AHL: 20-year old goaltender Edward Pasquale was called back up to Chicago (AHL) on Sunday. In five games with the Glads Pasquale went 2-2 with a 3.79 GAA and a .904 save percentage.

Coming Full Circle: Rookie forward Justin Milo was in camp with the Gladiators early this season before being released. After two short stints in Alaska and South Carolina he was picked up off waivers by the Gladiators last week and wasted no time making an impact. Milo had the first multi-goal game of his career, scoring twice in the first period in a January 8th 3-2 win over Greenville. Coincidentally, the first goal of Milo's pro career also came in Gwinnett on December 3rd, but with Milo playing as a member of the Stingrays.

It's Miller Time: Forward Tim Miller was called up to Chicago (AHL) on Saturday, and given his hot start to the New Year it's not too surprising a move. In the seven games Gwinnett has played in 2011, Miller has six goals and seven assists. After going 13 games without a goal earlier this season, he now has 14 goals (nine assists) in his last 19 games. Miller was called up to Chicago (AHL) today.

Forney on Fire: Forward Michael Forney has four goals and 14 assists over his last 16 games. He will take Aaron Bendickson's place representing the Gladiators on the ECHL All-Star Team.

Streak Snapper: Forward Pat Galivan snapped a 20-game scoreless drought in a big way last Friday, racking up a hat trick to go along with an assist in the Glads 8-6 win over Greenville.

Leading the Pack: Forward Dan Kissel is 2nd among rookies with 125 shots on goal ‚¬Â¦ he also ranks 15th in rookie scoring (22 pts) ‚¬Â¦ Michael Forney is 5th in the league with 28 assists, and 13th with 37 points.

A Full 60 Minutes: The score after the first two periods has been crucial for the Gladiators this season. Gwinnett is a perfect 13-0-0-0 this season when leading after two periods of play but the Gladiators are 2-14-5 when trailing after two periods of play this season.

Iron Men: Andy Brandt is the only Gladiator to play in every game for the team this season. One exception: Since being reassigned from Chicago (AHL), Michael Forney has appeared in every game for Gwinnett after missing the first four this year.

Paq-Man Packs a Punch: Rookie forward and Thrashers prospect Danick Paquette is 4th in the ECHL in penalty minutes (121) in just 36 games, and leads rookies by far in that category.

Last Week:

January 15th, Gwinnett 2, Florida 3 - OTL The Arena at Gwinnett Center, Duluth, GA

The Gwinnett Gladiators (19-17-6) fell to the Florida Everblades (23-18-2) in overtime Saturday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center, 3-2. An unassisted goal from forward Andy Brandt at the 5:59 mark in the first period gave the Glads an early 1-0 lead. This would mark his 9th of the year, and unleashed a flurry of teddy bears from the Gladiators faithful on Teddy Bear Toss Night. Trailing 2-1 entering the third the Glads threatened through much of the periood but were turned away by Florida goaltender Bobby Goepfert. In a last gasp effort Mike Forney set up Brandt with a centering feed and the veteran made no mistake, beating Goepfert with just 17.1 seconds remaining in the third to even the score at two. Tom Zanoski added an assist on Brandt's second of the night, making this the third straight game Gwinnett came back from a third period deficit.

January 14th, Greenville 6, Gwinnett 8 - W BI-LO Center, Greenville, SC

The Gwinnett Gladiators battled back from a third period deficit with four unanswered goals, stunning the Greenville Road Warriors 8-6 Friday night at the BI-LO Center for their fifth win in a row. Trailing 6-4 after two periods of play the Gladiators (19-17-5) comeback started 9:21 into the third. Pat Galivan capped a hat trick on an assist from Andy Brandt to make it 6-5. Galivan had snapped a 20-game scoreless streak earlier in the night. Tom Zanoski's fourth goal of the season at 13:52 on the powerplay with an assist to Drew Paris tied the game, and Gwinnett wasn't finished. With 3:53 to go in the third Dan Kissel hammered home a rebound on a bad angle shot from John-Scott Dickson to give the Gladiators a 7-6 edge. Tim Miller tacked on an empty-netter from Mike Forney at 18:23 to cap the highest scoring game of the season for the Glads. Galivan had a hat trick to go with an assist, while Tim Miller had a goal and three assists on the night. The Gladiators are now just seven points back of Greenville (24-11-2) for first in the South Division.

January 11th, Gwinnett 2, Florida 1 - W The Arena at Gwinnett Center, Duluth, GA

The Gladiators struck twice in the third period Tuesday for a 2-1 comeback win over the Florida Everblades at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Defenseman Drew Paris' second goal of the season at the 4:19 mark of the third tied the game at one, with Pat Galivan and Mike Forney chipping in assists. Gwinnett (18-17-5) continued to bombard Blades goaltender Jaroslav Janus, and at 13:52 the Gladiators picked up the go-ahead goal off a scrum in front of the net. Andy Brandt's eighth from Dan Kissel and Justin Milo gave Gwinnett their first lead of the night. The Glads survived a late push from Florida (21-17-2), and won their first game of the season when trailing after two periods (1-14-4). Gwinnett outshot Florida 41-32 on the night, with 23 of those shots coming in the final period.
