Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins started up their three-day, three-game weekend with a 5-0 victory over the Springfield Falcons Friday night at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
Rookie goaltender Matt Murray got his second nod as a starter Friday night and made the best of his opportunity by blanking Springfield. Murray picked up his first career shutout all while stopping the 21 Falcons shots he faced.
Nick Drazenovic's huge first period against his former club jump-started the Penguins' rout Friday night.
Already up 1-0 after Bryan Rust scored his third goal of the season, Drazenovic took a Tom Kostopoulos pass and put the puck to the back of the net. As Springfield's Corey Cowick sat in the box for high-sticking, Drazenovic powered a slap shot past Falcons goaltender Oscar Dansk for the Pens' third goal of the first period. Drazenovic's goal was the Pens' first power play goal of the season. The Pens were previously 0-for-17 on the power play. The Pens went into the first intermission up 3-0, and they didn't look back.
After a scoreless second period, Rust netted his second goal of the game at the 13:30 mark of the third period. Jean-Sebastien Dea picked up his second goal of the season with five minutes left in the game. Already with the game out of reach, Murray held his own as a late push by Springfield tried to ruin his shutout.
The Pens travel to Hershey tomorrow to take on the Bears before coming back home to Wilkes-Barre on Sunday for a clash with the Binghamton Senators at 4:05pm at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Individual tickets for all Penguins home games are available at the Mohegan Sun Arena Box Office, online at TicketMaster.com, or by calling 800-745-3000.
Penguins season tickets, including full season, 22-game, 12-game and 10-ticket flex vouchers, are available directly through the Penguins ticket offices at 570-208-7367.
