Nikita Nesterov's OT Winner Lifts Crunch over Sharks

Syracuse, N.Y. - Nikita Nesterov scored a power-play goal 5:08 into overtime to lift the Syracuse Crunch (3-1-1-0) over the Worcester Sharks (3-1-1-0) 3-2 tonight at the DCU Center.

In his third start of the season netminder Kristers Gudlevskis made 26 saves on 28 shots for his second win of the year (2-1-0-0).

The Sharks jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal from Konrad Abeltshauser 7:54 into the first period. With Dylan Blujus serving a tripping minor, Abeltshauser backhanded the puck past Gudlevskis with assists from Freddie Hamilton and Evan Trupp.

Syracuse responded just 33 seconds later when Dalton Smith knocked the rebound of a Jerome Samson shot past Sharks netminder Troy Grosenick. The goal was Smith's first of the season.

Crunch captain Mike Angelidis scored the lone goal of the second period 9:54 into the frame. Angelidis put the Crunch ahead 2-1 with his first of the season, and 100th career AHL goal. Philippe Paradis earned his first point of the 2014-15 campaign with an assist on the play.

With Grosenick on the bench for an extra attacker Micheal Haley scored to force overtime with 1:11 remaining in regulation. Nesterov netted the game-winner while the Crunch had a four-on-three advantage thanks to a Trupp tripping call, Jonathan Marchessault assisted on the goal.

The Crunch continue their three-game road trip by visiting the Portland Pirates on Saturday, Oct. 25. at 7 p.m.
