Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
TORONTO, ONT. - Hamilton Bulldogs forward Eric Tangradi scored his first two goals of the season and goaltender Joey MacDonald stopped 19 of the 20 shots he faced as the 'Dogs (2-0-2-0) topped the Toronto Marlies (3-3-0-0) 4-1 in the latest installment of the American Hockey League's Battle of Ontario at Ricoh Coliseum on Friday evening.
Bulldogs defenceman Nathan Beaulieu - playing his first game of the season with Hamilton after being assigned by the Montreal Canadiens earlier this week - got the 'Dogs on the board first at 10:12 of the opening frame, with assists from forwards Michael Bournival and Sven Andrighetto.
Andrighetto made no mistake on a wide-open Marlies cage and put home his second goal of the season at 1:51 of the second period to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Assists went to defenceman Davis Drewiske and forward Charles Hudon.
With less than a minute to go in the middle frame, Tangradi buried a backhand shot on the power play for his first goal of 2014-15 to put his team ahead 3-0. Forward Drayson Bowman had the only assist on the play.
Toronto forward Greg McKegg broke MacDonald's shutout bid at 7:26 of the third period to make it a 3-1 game, with assists from forwards Connor Brown and Spencer Abbott.
Tangradi added an empty netter with 1:55 to play to seal the 4-1 victory for Hamilton. Bowman once again had the only assist.
MacDonald's counterpart Antoine Bibeau stopped 22 of 25 shots faced for the Marlies in the loss.
Hamilton went 1-for-6 on the power play, while Toronto was 1-for-3.
